The Head Brewer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of brewing operations of the 3.5 barrel brew house at Free Range Brewing, ensuring consistent product quality, operational efficiency, and alignment with the company’s creative and community-oriented values. This role manages all production processes and raw materials while driving innovation, maintaining equipment, and supporting the continued growth of the brand.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Accountable for meeting all standard operating procedures for brewing and product quality. Manages raw materials flow, and manufacturing processes of the brewing department. Responsible for the overall quality and efficiency in wort and other beverage production. Supports value-added integration into other aspects of Free Range’s business. Responsible for all of the brewing production process including mixing and blending raw materials, water, and other necessary ingredients; yeast management, collection, storage, evaluation, pitching; monitoring fermentation; checking on the quality of wort/beer both before and after fermentation and filtration; cleaning and sterilizing the brew tanks, filtering and processing equipment; and sensory evaluation; cleaning, maintenance and overall management of cooperage; packaging and fulfillment. High attention to detail and strong ability to multitask. Responsible for recipe development for FRB beers, sparkling mineral waters and any R&D products. Operation and Maintenance of brewery equipment. Maintain an annual production schedule and manage KPIs to achieve production goals. Manage and maintain production related SOPs. Contributes to the development of the brand and organization. Recognizes, initiates, and leads improvement activities. Anticipates and plans for changes in needs, new technology, and industry conditions. Participates and contributes to beverage education for FRB staff as a whole. Qualifications
5+ years practical brewing experience. 2+ supervision/leadership experience, leading production of a brewery/brewpub. Formal training at an accredited brewing school or BS degree in an applicable science preferred. Proficient in maintenance and troubleshooting of brewing equipment. Mechanical aptitude and technical abilities are required. Proficient with brewing production software (EKOS preferred). Must have strong organizational skills. Willingly shares skills and knowledge and sets a good example for others. Effectively gives and receives feedback and participates in continuous improvement. Must possess exceptional work-ethic and character, as well as great communication and leadership qualities. Desire to lead production for a brand that prioritizes locally sourced ingredients, with a focus on production that contributes to a sense of place. Physical Requirements
Ability To lift 55+lbs. Ability to lift or move (with assistance) kegs or cases of beer, up to 165 lbs assisted. Comfortable standing for extended periods of time. Ability to work in a hot and cold environment. Forklift experience preferred. Compensation package:
