Pink Boots Society in partnership with 21st Amendment Brewery is delighted to announce the recipients for the Cicerone Level 2: Certified Cicerone Exams scholarship Kate Conway, Caroline Gilmer, and Kata Kiss.

Kate Conway is Co-owner and Director of Business Operations at Pickett Brewing Company, set to open at the new location in Baltimore, Maryland’s Pigtown neighborhood later in 2021. Although they are not officially open yet, they are still brewing small batches and brewed a golden ale for the 2021 Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day©. While Kate has extensive experience in operations and development, she believes the knowledge gained from the Cicerone Level 2: Certified Cicerone course will help her to optimize the brewery by building strong connections and opportunities well into the future. Kate is the Finance Liaison of the newly established Greater Maryland Chapter, which was recently featured on the Brewer’s Association of Maryland’s Fermented Friday Chat

Shortly after starting as an unpaid apprentice, Caroline Gilmer was promoted to Assistant Brewer at Platt Park Brewing Company in Denver, CO. Her responsibilities include managing the quality control standard operating procedures, creating recipes, and brewing 1-barrel batches on the experimental kit, and reviving and managing the barrel program. Caroline’s goal is to one day become a Brew Master. She believes the Cicerone Level 2: Certified Cicerone course will advance her towards her goals faster and increase her involvement within Pink Boots Society. She also believes together, we can keep transforming the industry, starting with education and gaining new experiences.

Entrepreneur, Kata Kiss, is the Founder and CEO of Craftlabs, the only craft laboratory, and brewery consultant company of its kind in Hungary, where she provides analytical and microbiological testing for craft breweries. A majority of her work is devoted to troubleshooting, managing issues, and dealing with potential process improvements. Kata thinks the Cicerone Level 2: Certified Cicerone program is a unique opportunity to improve her performance and provide the best possible service for her clients. She believes it will allow her to gain more expertise and become a specialist in her field.

Certified Cicerone is the second level of certification. Those who achieve this certification have a solid and well-rounded knowledge of beer and beer service as well as basic competence in assessing beer quality and identity by taste. The four-hour exam includes a written portion, tasting, and demonstration portions. It is given more than 100 times each year at sites across the US, Canada, and other international sites.
