The Pink Boots Society is proud to announce that the Boston Chapter recipient of the 2019 Road to Cicerone® Courses Educational Series scholarship is Emily Beaulieu of Lamplighter Brewing Co. in Cambridge.

Emily is a woman of many hats at Lamplighter Brewing, including Bartender, Staff Trainer, Online Retail Operations Manager and Bottle Society Coordinator. Her role encompasses many aspects of social media, coordination of launch events with the marketing and operation teams, and general membership management.  Emily plans to share the knowledge she learns through the Road to Cicerone® Courses, with not only the people within her brewery but also the Boston Pink Boots Chapter and her Cicerone study group.

After graduating from Boston University with a masters in counseling, Emily worked as a guidance counselor for two years but found herself feeling jaded. To regain her footing she took a position with a small, outdoor Maine brewery for the summer. She described it as “a fast-paced learn-on-the-job kind of deal,” which left her hungering to learn more about the industry.  “I started to lose sight of full-time counseling and began thinking seriously about pursuing a job in the industry and eventually made the fateful decision to move back home to follow this hunger. I applied to work at a new brewery and over a year later, I am infinitely grateful to be a part of this community.”

The Road to Cicerone® Courses Educational Series is an annual scholarship offering for the Pink Boots Society and includes a suite of study books and exams. The coursebooks will enhance the student’s knowledge of brewing techniques, raw ingredients, how to properly keep and store beer, beer styles of specific regions, and the language to clearly discuss beer. Each self-paced coursebook should take 12 hours to complete and includes a specialist exam to validate the knowledge learned, assisting the student on her journey to Master Cicerone®. The specialist exam will enhance Certified Beer Server credentials by earning a course pin when the student passes or may be used to take unlimited chances to quiz oneself for the Certified Cicerone®, Advanced Cicerone®, or Master Cicerone® exams.

In addition to attending the course, Emily will each receive a pair of pink steel-toe rubber boots when she fulfills the Pay It Forward requirement associated with the scholarship.
