The Pink Boots Society is proud to announce that Laura Davis of New Belgium Brewing in Colorado is the recipient of the BBL, Inc. USA Deliria Brew Day Experiential scholarship.

Laura was chosen by the PBS Scholarship Selection Committee (SSC), five very experienced women beer professionals who hold positions as brewers, educators and writers from a strong group of applicants. In her essay she was able to convey how this scholarship would contribute to her career as well as how she plans to share what she learns with the members of her Fort Collins Chapter – a presentation will combine both the technical side of the experience and the environment in which it occurs.

As a Systems & Automations Engineer at New Belgium, Laura designs, implements, maintains and optimizes automation solutions to improve quality, foster environmental stewardship, improve reliability or add capability across the brewery. It is a role that she loves, “from the nitty gritty of process engineering to the finished product.” Her technical education grows daily however she says, “I end up on project work most of the time and I become an expert in little, discreet corners of the process. I’d like to ‘zoom out’ and see the whole process in a more traditional and established facility.”

In regards to the beer she will be part of brewing, Laura conveyed her eagerness to learn more about the diverse and dynamic category of Belgian beers. “I was once told that Belgian beer has 3 ingredients: water, grain, and whatever else you want. I’d like to experience the type of culture that encourages the wild, unconstrained creativity while fostering quality and devotion to craft.”

The BBL, Inc. USA Deliria Brew Day Experiential Scholarship is an onsite experience January 17 – 19, 2020 in Ghent, Belgium and is designed for any beer professional with a passion for Belgian style beers and brewing processes. There women in the beer industry from around the globe will come together to brew a beer for International Women’s Day (March 8th). Local travel, hotel accommodations, beer and meals are provided by Delirium and a stipend is included to cover travel to Belgium.

In addition to attending the course, Laura will each receive a pair of pink steel-toe rubber boots when she fulfills the Pay It Forward requirement associated with the scholarship.
